WATCH: Iowa Fire Department’s Boathouse Floats Down Mississippi River
You'll never know what you'll see floating down the Mighty Mississippi.
It's not uncommon to see barges, eagles, speedboats, or any kind of marine thing make it's way along the river, depending on the time of the year.
Well, evidently it's the time of the year for boathouses.
According to a release from the Davenport Fire Department, a mechanical failure of a boat on the river set of a series of events that led to the fire department's boathouse meandering down the Mississippi River.
The release says that at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, fire department crew were working to affix the boathouse to the seawall to get ready for summer operations. One of the two fire department's watercrafts positioning the boathouse had the mechanical failure. That's what made the boathouse a houseboat.
No worries though, the boathouse was later secured on shore by the department and a tugboat helped out.
Davenport FD says that the boathouse has been moved seasonally every year for over 10 years.
The boathouse is fine, though there's cosmetic damage to two decorative cupolas on the roof.
And it is now, indeed, secured to the seawall.

It scraped that rail bridge, didn't it?
Luckily, there aren't reports of any injuries in the boathouse's escapade. There's no word on how long the boathouse drifted downstream but it's secured to shore now.
It's early in the season for weird happenings on the Mississippi River, but it's a sign that summer is on it's way!
