VERY Valuable Lottery Ticket Sold in Cedar Rapids

Somebody who bought a lottery ticket in Cedar Rapids has something worth a whole lot of money. Is it you?

A ticket was purchased in Cedar Rapids that is going to be paying someone every year for the remainder of their, hopefully, very long life.

According to a media release from the Iowa Lottery, someone purchased a Lucky for Life ticket that was a big winner in Thursday night's drawing. The ticket holder didn't win the top prize of $1,000 a day for life, but they did capture the second-best prize: $25,000 a year, for life.

The ticket matched five numbers, but not the Lucky Ball, in Thursday night's drawing. If you purchased a ticket for that drawing at the Casey's at 641 Edgewood Road NW in Cedar Rapids, you better check your numbers! Or if you know someone who buys lottery tickets there, give 'em a call. Who knows, it could be worth something for you... maybe they'll give you a lump sum of, say, $1,000 a year. Yeah, that sounds fair.

Interestingly enough, Thursday was the day that Michael Pietz of Adel, Iowa claimed his $25,000 a year, for life. Pietz had won in the drawing on October 13. He told the Iowa Lottery he didn't even realize what had happened at first:

I was talking with the clerk and not overly paying attention. I scanned it and he’s like, ‘Wait a minute, what did that say?’ And I said, ‘I don’t know, probably something like $10.’ And I scanned it again and I thought, ‘That can’t be right.’ And I scanned it again and then I had him scan it.

Pietz is 37-years-old. World Life Expectancy says the average life expectancy of Iowans is 79.71 years. If Pietz were to live to that age, his ticket would be worth approximately one million dollars. Before taxes, but I'd take it. Now... who bought that ticket in Cedar Rapids?
