We've seen plants close locally (temporarily), and numerous summer festivals throw in the towel... but luckily for Iowans, COVID-19 continues to take fewer jobs than most U.S. states. Still, even one person out of work due to the pandemic is too many.

According to WalletHub, Iowa saw a 823.79% Increase in Unemployment Claims in April 2020 vs. April 2019. Despite the alarming number, we still had the 11th lowest increase in the U.S. Florday suffered the most employment losses in April, and Montona the fewest. Of all the Midwest states, only Wisconsin fared better seeing a 798.39% increase year over year.

May should see fewer layoffs as parts of the state have, or are set to reopen. Time will tell what the long term impact will be on Iowa, and the U.S. as a whole.
