WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A police officer who says he's received threats since shooting a man in 2012 will be allowed to move his family farther away from City Hall in Waterloo.

The City Council voted Monday to grant Officer Kyle Law an exception to a policy that says city workers deemed critical to emergency response must live within 10 miles of City Hall. The exception lets Law move up to 20 miles away. Law had sought the exception, saying he's been threatened several times and wanted to find a new, safer home for his family.

A grand jury declined to charge Law in the November 2012 shooting of 22-year-old Derrick Ambrose Jr.
