Eastern Iowan Pleads in Tax Theft Case

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — A 35-year-old Cedar Rapids woman has admitted using another person's identity to file a fraudulent tax return and steal money from the U.S. government.

Gwendolyn Murray pleaded guilty Monday to one count of theft of government property and one count of identity theft.

Prosecutors say Murray admitted using someone else's name and Social Security number and signing a fraudulent tax return that she filed in January 2012. Murray also admitted cashing the refund check of more than $6,000.

A sentencing date hasn't been set.
