It's a scary reality, COVID-19 has impacted many, many nursing and assisted living homes in the U.S. and Iowa has been far from immune to outbreaks involving senior homes. Sadly, KCRG is reporting a nursing assistant who worked while infected could very well be the reason that coronavirus into an Iowa nursing home where fifteen residents later passed away.

The employee was permitted to continue working with seniors at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa, because the center failed to adequately screen its staff for symptoms at the beginning of their shifts. As a result, a total of 79 residents and staff members at the home have tested positive for the virus making it one of the worst outbreaks in the state of Iowa. As a result of its failure to adequately screen employees for illness, the Crystal Heights Care Center has been fined 8,750 by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals.

I can only imagine the number of lawsuits from family and even staff that will come from this. For that matter, that will likely come from many of the tragic outbreaks seen worldwide during this pandemic. Please stay healthy and remember, we still have to wash our hands and mask up - especially if we're going to be around those with health issues.
