CHARLES CITY, Iowa (AP) — A trial has been rescheduled to January for a convicted sex offender who'd been defeated in a Charles City school board election.

Online court records say the trial is scheduled to begin Jan. 12 for 59-year-old Doug Lindaman. He's pleaded not guilty to allegations that he performed a sex act in 2011 on a 17-year-old boy without the boy's consent. Lindaman's trial was scheduled to begin next week. He was convicted in 1988 of two counts of lascivious acts with two minors.

Lindaman requested the trial delay so he could have more time to take depositions and sort out evidentiary issues. He's representing himself.

Floyd County figures say Lindaman received a little over 14 percent of the votes cast in the Sept. 8 election.
