A motorcyclist was hospitalized with very serious injuries, after colliding with an SUV.


The accident happened just before 8am Monday (July 15), in Fairfax. A 2002 Harley Davidson operated by 23 year old Zachary Taylor of Fairfax, was traveling east on Williams Blvd, when a sport utility vehicle, driven by 16 year old Carson Smith of Fairfax, turned left in front of him.

According to the Linn County Sheriff, Carson was driving west and was attempting a left-hand turn into the business drive of a convenience store, and reportedly did not see the oncoming motorcycle.

Taylor was Air-Cared to University of Iowa Hospitals, with what were described as life-threatening injuries. There is no word on his current condition. Taylor was not wearing a helmet.

Carson was charged with Failure to Yield on a Left Turn.
