Plans for CF Hospital Delayed Due to Owner Change

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Plans for a $120 million hospital in Cedar Falls that would replace an aging facility have been delayed indefinitely.

The plans announced in May 2015 for a new hospital were delayed by the transfer of Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls and Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo to a new organization.

In May, West Des Moines-based Mercy Health Networks took over the hospitals, which had been run by Wheaton-Franciscan Healthcare-Iowa.

Joe LeValley, a Mercy senior vice president, says the timetable for the new hospital is unclear but support remains for the plan.

Sartori hospital has undergone extensive improvements since being built in 1914, but officials have said the building is outdated and should be replaced. Plans initially called for construction to begin in 2017.
