History has a strange way of repeating itself. Just ask a Green Bay Packers fan. 15 years ago during a road game against the Dallas Cowboys, future Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre was injured. He was replaced by a young, cocky, third-year quarterback that the Packers had drafted in the first round. His name was Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers didn't lead the Packers to a win that night, but he looked the part of a future franchise quarterback. The following season the Packers moved on from Favre and Rodgers began his reign as one of the top quarterbacks in NFL history.

This past Sunday night, however, it was Rodgers who had to leave a game early due to injury. How strange it must have been for him to watch a young, cocky, third-year quarterback who the Packers used a first-round pick on come in to play. That quarterback is Jordan Love. And much like Rodgers 15 years ago, Love looked confident running the offense and made you wonder if the Packers had struck gold again.

I've been an Aaron Rodgers fan from the beginning. I was a Favre fan too. But 15 years ago I was excited to see what Rodgers could do. I feel the same way about Jordan Love. Rodgers and the Packers have had a rough year. This team clearly isn't playoff material and Rodgers has a broken thumb and now a rib injury. Many in the media are calling for Green Bay to sit Rodgers for the rest of the year and give Love a chance to shine. But hasn't Rodgers earned the right to play? I mean Green Bay gave him a new three-year contract in the off-season for a reason. They still believe that Rodgers has enough for them to build around and make another run at the Super Bowl.

It's situations like this that can tear a fan base apart. Are you in Rodger's camp? Or do you want Love to succeed? I have nothing but respect for Rodgers and what he's done in his career. If he's healthy enough, let him play until the Packers are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. Then, sit him down and give Love a shot. A chance to play with the starters. A chance to face real defenses that will gameplan against him. Then, at the end of the season, the Packer's front office will have a tough decision to make. Stick with the veteran, or move on to the hope of the young gun. They got it right 15 years ago. Here's hoping they can do it again.
