Owl Found in Oelwein Taken to Animal Sanctuary
An owl that was discovered in Oelwein Wednesday (June 19), is being cared for at a local animal sanctuary.
The young, Barred Owl was found by an Oelwein resident, and appeared to need some TLC. It apparently had no signs of injury, and was left in a tree it had climbed.
Authorities called Wildthunder Wildlife and Animal Rehabilitation and Sanctuary, or "WARS" located in rural Independence, and is operated by local resident Tracy Belle.
The agency is a non-profit organization, and is state and federally licensed to operate as a wildlife rehabilitation facility, as well as a state licensed animal shelter.
The organization employs volunteers, and relies mostly on donations for financial support.
