[UPDATED June 3 11:10 am] The victim in Thursday night's accident has been identified as 32-year-old Colby Stepanek of rural Fairfax.

[ORIGINAL STORY] One person was killed Thursday evening in a one-vehicle accident in Linn County.

According to the Linn County Sheriff's Office, a number of emergency personnel were dispatched to a single-vehicle accident on Linn Johnson Road Thursday night just after 7:20 p.m.

Deputies from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, along with Linn County Sheriff's Rescue, the Fairfax Fire Department, and Area Ambulance all responded to the accident at Linn Johnson Road and 34th St., south of the Eastern Iowa Airport and west of I-380.

When the first responders arrived on the scene they found a Nissan Altima had lost control. The vehicle had then left the road and traveled into the north ditch where it struck a power pole.

The driver of the vehicle was wearing their seat belt but was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The name of the driver has not been released, pending notification of relatives.
