DELHI, Iowa (AP) — Nearly six years after torrential rains caused Delhi Lake's dam to drain, a new dam is almost complete.

Work on the $16 million dam restoration began two years ago, although efforts to restore the lake were underway years before ground broke.

Property owners formed a new taxing district known as the Lake Delhi Combined Recreational Facility and Water Quality District shortly after the storms, and voters approved a $6 million bond measure to support the restoration project.

The state committed $5.3 million, and about $1.7 million was raised through private donations. Delaware County officials also chipped in $3 million, which was contingent on public-access improvements to the nearby Turtle Creek Recreation area.
