DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — Officials at a Dubuque elementary school say a student who brought a pocketknife to class has been removed from the premises.

Marshall Elementary School Principal Joe Maloney sent an email to parents Monday, saying the knife was confiscated and the child was removed from the school. Details surrounding the incident and the age of the student weren't immediately available.

In his email, Maloney says school employees heard from students that another had a pocketknife.

School administrators and resource officers plan to look into the incident. Disciplinary action will be taken pending the results of the investigation.
