Five Northeast Iowa businesses and employees face fines for selling alcohol to a minor.

On Saturday (April 11th), the Independence Police Department conducted alcohol compliance checks with local licensed establishments. The department sent a person under the age of 21 into each business, to try to purchase alcohol, under the legal age.

A total of five businesses in Independence sold alcohol to the minor:

Casey's Gas Station-North, Casey's Gas Station-truck stop, the Sanity Room tavern, the Music Station gas station, and the Del Rio Mexican restaurant.

Each of the employees who sold the alcohol to the minor was fined $735 on site. Plus each business could face a fine of $2,085, after the compliance results are sent to the State Alcohol Beverage Division.
