With Independence Day just around the corner, it's crunch time for all those involved in organizing and executing community celebrations across cities and towns in Minnesota. As the holiday approaches, organizers are working tirelessly to ensure that the festivities proceed smoothly according to plan.

The highlight of these gatherings is the fireworks display. However, the largest city in Minnesota has made the decision not to incorporate fireworks into its festivities. Minneapolis officials say there will be no fireworks at their annual 'Red, White, and Boom" party. Find out why and what they're doing instead below.

Minnesota's Largest City Won't Have Fireworks on The Fourth

Minneapolis, the largest city in the state of Minnesota, will not be lighting fireworks at their annual "Red White and Boom" celebration which is scheduled for July 3rd. Read what they have planned instead, below.

The Star Tribune outlined the reasons given by local leaders including the cost.

District 3 commissioner Becky Alper was quoted in the article and sounds like a real Debbie Downer: "To me, it sounds pretty much like taking money and lighting it literally on fire."

To be fair to Alper, that is 100% true, and every mom and dad in America will tell you that. Every mom and dad also understands that sometimes you just have to pony up the cash to make your family happy.

Instead of Fireworks, This Is How Minneapolis Will Light Up The Sky

It's hard to imagine a 4th of July party without fireworks, but the Minneapolis Park and Rec Department has a plan and is inviting everyone to the new Red, White, and Boom Island event on July 3rd.

The family-friendly event is free and will feature food trucks starting at 8:00 PM.  Then at 10:00 PM guests will enjoy a laser display.

The Minneapolis Park and Rec Department is calling it a "spectacular laser display" and says it will be set to patriotic music.

Organizers say you'll need to be in Boom Island to see the laser show. Boom Island Park is located at 724 Sibley St NE in Minneapolis.
