With COVID-19 restrictions being lifted in most areas, the city of Cedar Falls is relaxing its mask mandate resolution.

The city council on Monday voted to allow the current resolution to expire, as scheduled, on Wednesday (May 19). The mandate, which was originally passed on Sept. 8, required anyone within the city limits to wear a face covering in public settings when unable to remain six-feet or more apart from others with exemptions made for health or public safety reasons.

Although masks are no longer required, city officials are encouraging anyone who's at high-risk for COVID-19 complications to continue wear one.

Masks may be required in some Cedar Falls locations, despite the city council's action. Private business, schools, universities, libraries and organizations could still have private mask mandates in place.

On Friday, in neighboring Waterloo, Mayor Quentin Hart declared a new mask mandate in his city that also aligns with updated guidance recently announced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Hart's order abolished the requirements of an indefinite mask mandate that was previously extended by the Waterloo city council.

You'll notice that they're listed in alphabetical order because it's hard to say that one is better than the other. Except for those cheap frozen burritos you can find in your grocer's freezer, those are truly disgusting. Especially, when you compare them to these local creations made with fresh ingredients and tender loving care. There's a surprising amount of fantastic Mexican restaurants in the area, let's check them out.

Top 10 Fantastic Breweries in the Cedar Valley & Northeast Iowa - List

It's a quote that rings true, "Local Beer is Better". Why? Because you're supporting your friends and neighbors. Heck, you might even personally know the brewmaster of your favorite local beer. How cool is that? The "dive bar" down on the corner might have it's own place in society, but they're quickly being replaced by local breweries with unique themes and spacious taprooms. On top of that, they take the joy of beer to the next level, with some really good (and sometimes award-winning) beer! Scroll down for our virtual brewery tour.
