This legendary Chicago candy shop has been serving huge ice cream sundaes since 1921, including the 'world's largest' 25-scoop giant.

Best Reasons to Visit North Chicago

There are many sights and landmarks on the north side of Chicago worth a visit. The biggest of them is of course Wrigley Field. The home of the Chicago Cubs is worth a visit even if you don't have tickets to a game. There's plenty to see around the ballpark.

There is one address in north Chicago, that should be one of your stops.

Since 1921, a small candy business on Western Avenue in Bucktown has been serving some of the most incredible confections, including delicious homemade ice cream and it's that ice cream that has elevated them to legendary status.

Margie's Candies in Chicago

There are two Margie's locations in Chicago but the Western Ave. location is the original shop, which opened in 1921. Locals tell stories of Chicago mobster Al Capone being a big fan and that he was a regular customer.

In 1965, The Beatles had just finished a concert at Comiskey Park, and in walks John, Paul, George, and Ringo, with 5 girls to sit down and eat the ice cream they had been hearing about all day. The ice cream parlor has a lot of Beatles memorabilia on the walls commemorating that night.

If the homemade candy is the opening act, the main attraction is the ice cream concoctions served in old-fashioned tulip bowls.

Margie's menu is filled with the stuff ice cream dreams are made of and even the regular sundaes are big enough to share (although you'll be using your spoons as swords to fight for the last spoonful).

And, if your party is large, Margie's had a 25-scoop giant.

The Royal George at Margie's Candies

The name is inspired by George Poulos, whose father Peter George Poulos, opened the Security Sweet Shop in 1921. George later renamed the shop, Margie's Candies, in honor of his wife, whom he had met at the sweet shop as a child.
