Local Woman Charged After Accident With Tractor

An Oelwein woman is being charged with causing an accident involving a farm tractor in Bremer County.

It happened Thursday (Nov. 23) at the intersection of Highway 3 and Piedmont Avenue, northwest of Readlyn. An SUV driven by 70 year old Duranda Hansen of Oelwein, was following a farm tractor towing a flatbed trailer, driven by an 11 year old juvenile, on Highway 3.

Hansen attempted to pass the tractor, just as the juvenile began turning left onto Piedmont, in a "No Passing Zone". Hansen's vehicle sideswiped the tractor. No one was injured, but there was heavy damage to the side of Hansen's 2011 Jeep Patriot, and minor damage to the tractor.

Hansen was cited for Unsafe Passing.
