The winds of change are about to bring our first taste of winter to Eastern Iowa. While Monday and Tuesday saw temperatures hit the 50-degree mark, Thanksgiving will see colder weather with the likelihood of our first accumulating snow hitting the area by the weekend.

Things Get a Bit Gusty

A cold front slammed into Iowa late Tuesday and brought some high winds with it. KCRG reports that a wind advisory remains in effect today with wind gusts hitting as high as 45 miles per hour. You'll need to grab that steering wheel tight if you have travel plans for the Thanksgiving holiday. While temperatures will dip to the teens overnight, the good news is that we'll have dry conditions for Thanksgiving Day and much of Black Friday.

Let's Talk About Snow

KCRG reports that things look good for travel on Thursday and for most of the day on Friday. But later Friday evening and into the overnight is when things could change. Right now, the storm system in question will move into the area late Friday with snow lasting into the day Saturday. KCRG reports that the storm impacting travel looks likely.

So how much snow will fall? KCRG reports that while confidence has increased in a snowy storm, causing travel problems, it is still too early to start talking totals. KCRG points out just how much the forecast has changed over the past two days. It does appear that the snow will be done by Sunday, a good day to potentially dig out or do your traveling home.

We'll keep you up to date with the latest forecast from our weather partners at KCRG.
