Iowa’s ‘Weirdest’ Food, According to the Rest of the Country

Let me start off by saying that I have absolutely no idea what the source of this map is, nor who created it. I first saw it on Reddit, but those posts can't be embedded on our site, for whatever reason.

Anywho, take a look:

My first thought when glancing at this map: "Walking Tacos!? Those are completely normal and SO good!"

For any Iowa transplants out there -- they really don't have this where you're from?

As stated in this tweet, walking tacos are incredibly simple to make. So easy, that I recall them being served regularly at high school sporting events where I grew up. Not only that -- they were regularly served during lunch at my high school (granted I'm from northwest Iowa, so we called them taco in a bag, but still). And we would be hyped on a taco in a bag day.

All you have to do is buy a package of small bags of Doritos (not Cool Ranch, Nacho Cheese like a normal person), cut the bags up the sides, fill said bag with a variety of taco meat, cheese, sour cream, tomatoes, lettuce, salsa, etc. Literally, just fill it with everything you'd put in a taco. Mash up the Doritos and mix it all together -- there ya go. You're an authentic Iowan.

They're freaking awesome.

Now that I think about it as an adult sitting in my apartment, I may just start making walking tacos for myself. I am an independent, single man in his 20s. Frick 'em, it's happening.

This food may be considered 'weird' by the rest of the country, but WOW they are delicious and effortless.
