Doesn't it often feel like every other phone call you get is a weird spam call?

Personally, I know that when my phone rings, I expect my iPhone to say "possible spam" alongside the phone number. It often does, and I just ignore the call and wait for a voicemail.

Well, my inbox is full, but you're probably better and keeping your inbox free.

While it's impossible to simply stop spammers from calling, you can take a few steps to prevent some spam calls from getting through.

You can enroll in the do-not-call list. You can also block numbers that appear fishy as they come in. I did this and can tell you, it takes less than 5 minutes to complete the process.

It's also a legitimate government website, so you should not have to worry about them using your phone number for anything nefarious.

You can also pretty safely completely avoid calls from certain phone numbers entirely.

Numbers to Avoid

Your best bet if you see a call from one of these numbers is to not answer the call, and then block it.

While some of the numbers may appear legit, many are actually from foreign callers masking their location by using an American phone number. Or, sometimes they are actually from numbers outside the U.S.

As an example, if you see the area code 284, that's from the British Virgin Islands. It's doubtful anyone there actually needs to reach you.

If you're ever in doubt, simply do not answer. If it's important, they will leave a message, Right? Unless your inbox is full like mine... oops.
