Sad news out of Hinton, Iowa. Authorities say a brother and sister who attended schools in the same Iowa school district lost their lives in a crash on an ice-covered road. Police did not immediately release their names.

According to the Sioux City Journal, the crash happened Tuesday morning on a rural road just north of Sioux City as the siblings were headed to Hinton High School.

The Plymouth County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened around 8 am when a car carrying the students entered a curve and proceeded to slide into the path of a pickup truck as a result of the icy roads.

The brother and sister in the car died at a hospital. Hinton, Iowa is in the northwestern portion of the state, roughly 3 and a half hours from Waterloo. Numerous accidents have been reported around the state in the past 24 hours due to icy road conditions.
