UPDATED: Two People Dead, Including Shooter, in Perry High School Incident
Mitch Mortvedt of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation announced that emergency responders found the gunman dead in the school when they arrived on the scene. They confirmed it is believed to be from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. There was also an improvised explosive device found inside the school that they were able to render safe.
Mortvedt revealed a 6th-grade student was killed. Five others were shot, four of them students. One is in critical condition, but their injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to Mortvedt. The names of the other victims is not being released at this time.
The shooter has been identified as 17-year-old Dylan Butler, a student at Perry High School. Authorities say he was armed with a pump-action shotgun and small-caliber handgun and made several social media postings in and around the time of the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing.
Dallas County Sheriff's officials have given their first update on this morning's shooting at Perry High School.
The first report of shots fired at the school came to law enforcement at around 7:37 a.m. The first officer arrived at Perry High School at 7:44. Sheriff Adam Infante told reporters that school was not yet in session when the shooting started. Infante added that when police arrived they discovered multiple gunshot victims.
KCCI-TV in Des Moines reports a school administrator was among those shot and the shooter has died of what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The shooter has not been identified, but CBS says the person was born in 2006. Additional information is expected this afternoon.

ABC News is reporting that a shooting has occurred at Perry High School, according to a Perry, Iowa police administrator. Perry is located just northwest of Des Moines.
The Des Moines Register reports that police on the scene confirmed a shooter. A medical helicopter was seen landing near the school along with other emergency vehicles. The Register reports that there could be multiple victims.
A reunification center has been set up in Perry for family members.
