As the COVID-19 pandemic has been a daily news story for the past 12 months now, you're no doubt ready to begin talking about it using past tense terms. I know I am. We're getting closer and closer, and confirmation of such is no clearer than news of one million vaccines being administered in the Hawkeye State.

Radio Iowa reports the state will cross the 1-million vaccinated mark this week. Census data shows Iowa's adult population is roughly 2.1 million, so this news brings hope that all adults who wish to be vaccinated can be prior to summer.

In the report, the governor stated,

As of yesterday, the CDC reported that Iowa had administered more than 952,000 doses, 18 and up. That’s 27% of the population, we’re 10th in the nation... 298,000 second doses, so it’s 13% of Iowans have been fully vaccinated and we rank 27th in the country.

While both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines require two doses, the Johnson and Johnson shot is a one-and-done vaccine. As of the data available today, over 18,000 Iowans have received the new Johnson and Johnson shot. A majority of those are ag production workers according to Gov. Reynolds. Plant workers were hit extremely hard last summer. The governor also encouraged Iowans who can travel to get vaccinated outside their county of residents if they feel that will be a quicker solution. While the pandemic isn't past tense yet, with each day, we seem to be getting closer to that being a reality.
