You can't blame Iowa men's basketball coach Fran McCaffery for smiling today. He just landed the highest ranked point guard recruit during his time as Iowa head coach. The Hawkeyes got a verbal commit from Dasonte Bowen, a player that Iowa had been after for several years.

Bowen is a point guard out of Massachusetts, and is a former teammate of current Hawkeye big man Josh Ogundele, according to Black Heart Gold Pants. Because of COVID restrictions, he has only been able to visit the University of Iowa campus. His first visit came back in 2019. His official visit to the school was last week. It would be his last, as shortly thereafter, Bowen announced his commitment to Fran McCaffery and Iowa.

Landing Bowen is a major win for McCaffery and the Iowa program. Bowen is listed as a four star recruit by 247 Sports and ESPN. He has great length at 6'3''. He is excellent with the ball and can consistently beat his man off the dribble. He shoots well from the outside, enough to keep defenders honest, and is also a willing passer.

In addition to the scholarship offer from Iowa, Bowen had an impressive list of teams interested in his services. Black Heart Gold Pants reports those teams included USC, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, Miami, Maryland, Northwestern, Penn, Brown, Penn State, UMass, South Dakota, Rhode Island, Georgetown, Seton Hall, Tennessee State, and Bryant. Bowen is Iowa's lone commitment so far for the class of 2022.
