Sick roads caused a head-on crash on an area highway Sunday that injured seven people. .

In a press release, Black Hawk County Sheriff’s officials reported the accident at approximately 10:30 AM on U.S. Highway 20, west of the Iowa Highway 58 interchange near Cedar Falls. A pick-up truck and SUV were involved in the crash.

Authorities said the driver of the westbound pick-up lost control on the snow- and ice-covered pavement. The vehicle crossed the median, entered the eastbound lanes, and collided head-on with the SUV, which came to rest in a ditch.

Sheriff's officials identified the SUV's driver as 46-year-old Amy Hoekstra of Owasso, Okla. Authorities said Hoekstra, her husband, the couple's three minor children, and a fourth adult passenger were all taken to a Waterloo hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

According to officials, the pick-up's driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Authorities identified her as 30-year-old Kacee Hildreth of Iowa Falls.

Sheriff's deputies cited Hildreth for failure to maintain control.

Black Hawk County sheriff's officials were assisted by Hudson Police, Cedar Falls Police, the Iowa State Patrol, MercyOne Waterloo Ambulance, Hudson Ambulance and Hudson Fire.
