Take A Peak Behind The Curtain Of A Popular Iowa Brewery [PHOTOS]
If you are a beer and Iowa lover, you might want to add this Northeast Iowa brewery to your list of places to visit in Iowa.
While visiting Manchester Iowa for the first time this week, I was told I needed to make sure I found time to visit Franklin Street Brewing Company- which I was able to actually do two days later.
One thing that stood out to me about the brewery was how welcoming all the employees were, which is exactly the kind of environment Kyle Sands, Co-Owner of Franklin Brewing Company hopes for.
We like to call it Manchester's living room. So, we always try to invite everybody down to Manchester's living room.
Franklin Street Brewing Company has some unique qualities that make it stand out. From beer cans featuring an image of an employee (the Drugstore Cowboy has an image of the brewer on a penny horse that you would find at a drugstore) to the brewery’s home being the oldest building in Iowa to house a brewery.
We tried to keep that as original as possible. Keeping the old original flooring, wood, and brick, which makes it kind of a real homey feeling.
Franklin Street Brewing Company was one of the 13 Iowa farmers and businesses that received a Choose Iowa Marketing and Promotion Grant from the Department of Agriculture earlier this year. With this grant, the Brewery plans to install a canning line to increase its production and purchase more Iowa-grown hops and grains.
Sands says they are hoping to be able to start making all-Iowa beers.
Grains and hops, those are the two things that are primarily Iowa ingredients that we could get…
We did a monster cookie beer with a local bakery, and coffee shop here in town.
