The Fayette County Sheriff is investigating a one-vehicle accident that sent a Decorah man to the hospital.

It happened shortly after 2pm Friday (May 25), on Lincoln Road, north of King Road, north of West Union. 24 year old Eric Smorstad was driving a pickup northbound, when he lost control and drove into the ditch. Smorstad was taken to the West Union hospital for evaluation. His 2004 Ford F150 was totaled.

The sheriff was also called out to two car/deer accidents. Shortly after 5pm Friday, an SUV driven by 42 year old Nicolette Mabb of Wadena, struck a deer on Cedar Road, north of Wadena. No one was hurt, but there was $5,000 damage to the 2018 Ford Explorer.

And at about 9pm Thursday, a pickup driven by 26 year old Zachary Ross of Garber, was driving east on Great River Road, north of West Union, when a deer ran into the side of the vehicle. Again, no one was hurt; damages were estimated at $5,000 to his 2014 Ford F150.
