Scammers are targeting Fayette County residents.

According to sheriff's officials, someone pretending to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has been calling area residents and threatening that they owe money to the government agency. The caller tells the resident that a warrant has been issued for his or her arrest, then asks for credit card information.

In a Facebook post, Sheriff Marty Fisher said his department has taken reports on the IRS scam. He warned residents not to give out any personal financial information, such as bank account or credit card numbers.

According to Fisher, the scam calls are all coming from the same number: 201-365-2751.

Fisher is asking anyone who receives such a call to report it to the Fayette County sheriff's department.
