Winona Teenager Admits Posting Threatening Social Media Messages
Winona, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Winona County Attorney's Office is considering whether to file charges against of 13-year-old girl who has admitted to posting threatening messages on social media.
The Winona Police Department says it was notified around 5 AM today that threatening messages referencing a "shoot up" at the Winona Middle and High Schools were being read and shared among students over a social media platform. Eventually, several parents learned of the messages and contacted the police department.
A news release says investigators were able to determine the origin of the messages and conducted several interviews before visiting a residence in Winona and interviewing the 13-year-old girl. Officials say she admitted she was responsible for messages.
Winona police have concluded the threats were not credible. No firearms were located and the child was left in the care of their guardian while prosecutors review the case to determine if charges are warranted.
