Eastern Iowa Coffee Shop Does What Most Businesses Won’t: Apologize
You may have seen a lot of chatter on Facebook about pup cups recently.
If you've been living under a rock and have never heard of a 'pup cup', it is a little cup of whipped cream that some drive-thru coffee stands have on their menus for anyone with their dog in the car.
I wouldn't have guessed that something so simple would be so problematic this week, but here we are.
Why Quad Citians Are Talking About Pup Cups
A frustrated customer made the below post on Facebook, detailing her and her friend's experience. In it, she says that they were taking her friend's dog to Atomic Coffee Bar in Rock Island to get his last pup cup before he had to be put down. The thing is that Atomic had discontinued their pup cups as they had people taking advantage of them and depleting their supply of whipped cream. Pup cups were taken off of Atomic's menu earlier this year.
Since the post went up and was shared in the popular Facebook group "What's Going On Quad Cities?", locals are split. Some are ripping into Atomic. Others are saying that the girls can't expect to get something that's not on a place's menu and that they should have gotten whipped cream at a store if it was that important to the dog.
Atomic's Response
The original post picked up a lot of traction and the owner of Atomic Coffee Bar posted this detailed apology on their Facebook page:
Several people are swearing they'll never go to Atomic again, others are saying they will still go.
One common point being made was that if Atomic had given the dying dog a pup cup, suddenly everyone else's dogs would be "dying".
At the end of the day, losing a pet in general is really hard. I've had to have dogs put down and it never gets easier. I'm sure my pups from years past are eating all of the pup cups (and garlic breadsticks) they like in heaven.
