Adventureland Park in Des Moines is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. If you grew up in Iowa like I did, a trip to the theme park was a summer right of passage. Over the years, the park has evolved and seen many rides and attractions come and go. One of those long-lost shows at Adventureland even featured some animals not found here in land-locked Iowa!

It turns out that you didn't need to go to a place like SeaWorld to see a dolphin show in the 1970s and 1980s. You could just go to Adventureland. The Des Moines Register recently did a story about some of your favorite attractions at Adventureland that are no longer there. Rides like the Silly Silo, the Log Ride, and the Dragon made the list. But the Register also pointed out that the theme park used to have a dolphin and sea lion show too!

According to a Facebook post, the show was called 'Sea Follies'. The show was featured at the theme park from 1977 to 1979 and then again from 1988 to 1991. The stars of the show were a pair of dolphins named Sammy and Suzie. The Register reports that the dolphins were accompanied by a sea lion who would clap along with audience members at the park.

I personally don't remember seeing this show as a kid, but I'll admit I was always more interested in riding the rides at Adventureland than seeing the shows.

Do you remember seeing the 'Sea Follies' show at Adventureland Park growing up? Send us your photos of Sammie and Suzie!
