DYERSVILLE, Iowa (AP) — A deputy and a theft suspect have been injured in a collision that ended a high-speed chase in eastern Iowa.

Authorities say the chase began around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday because the suspect, identified as 25 year old Kyle Schmitt of Sherrill, was suspected of shoplifting in Manchester. He fled east in his pickup on U.S. Highway 20, with officers in pursuit. Delaware County Sheriff John LeClere says the pickup rammed one deputy's sport utility vehicle several times.

The Iowa State Patrol says that as the chase neared Iowa Highway 136 in Dyersville, the pickup crossed into oncoming lanes, followed by deputy Clayton Miller's SUV. The SUV then struck the pickup, which overturned.

Deputy Miller, of Dyersville, was taken to a Manchester hospital, and the pickup driver, Schmitt, was taken to a Dubuque hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
