A jury has convicted a Decorah man on multiple charges connected to a deadly 2019 accident in central Iowa.

Jacob Pambin was found guilty of homicide by vehicle while intoxicated, homicide by recklessness, reckless driving and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The 34-year-old will be sentenced at a later date.

The Iowa State Patrol arrested Pambin on Aug. 4, 2019, after he lost control of the sport utility vehicle he was driving on a Story County road near of Zearing. The crash killed Pambin’s passenger, 29-year-old Trenton Litke of Nevada.

Court records show that Pambin had a blood-alcohol content of .159 at the time of the accident – nearly twice the legal limit in Iowa. Authorities said their investigation determined that Pambin was “joyriding” and fish-tailing his vehicle at a high-rate of speed when the crash happened.

The SUV slammed into a metal culvert and overturned, killing Litke at the scene.
