UPDATE: Waterloo West's Homecoming football game this week will be played after all.

About two hours after the Wahawks' scheduled varsity contest against Linn-Mar was canceled due to a quarantine order involving the team from Marion, Waterloo School officials issued a second news release that reversed the earlier announcement. CLICK HERE for details on the updated story.

ORIGINAL STORY: COVID-19 continues to impact high school football schedules across Iowa.

In the opening two weeks of the 2020 season, a handful of teams have been forced to cancel games because of a positive test. In some cities, such as Ames and Des Moines, games have been called off because the districts have gone to online learning.

On Thursday, officials announced that this week's Homecoming game at Waterloo West (1-1) will NOT be played because football players at Marion Linn-Mar -- the Wahawks' opponent -- are currently under quarantine. The game was scheduled to be played at Memorial Stadium, following the conclusion of the sophomore contest.

According to Waterloo School officials, the quarantine situation only effects varsity players at Linn-Mar (0-2). The scheduled sophomore game between the Wahawks and Lions WILL BE PLAYED, but will now kick-off at 5:30 PM.

Waterloo District officials said West High Homecoming festivities, including the queen/king coronation, will take place at halftime of the sophomore game (approximately 6:30 PM). Due to safety concerns, spectator attendance at Memorial Stadium will be limited. Fans will not be allowed inside the facility unless they have an admittance voucher.

Each varsity and sophomore football player, cheerleader, dance member and participating band member at West received three admittance vouchers. West seniors and Homecoming Court members each received four vouchers. Cheerleaders and sophomore football players at Linn-Mar also received three vouchers, which allows an individual to purchase a ticket at the game.

Waterloo Schools officials say tickets will not be sold to spectators who do not have an admittance voucher. In order to use a Waterloo Schools Employee Pass, a West High Athletic Booster Club Pass, a Waterloo Schools Senior Citizen Pass, and/or a West High Student Activity Pass, the individual must have an admittance voucher from one of the participants.

With the varsity game being canceled, admission prices have been adjusted. Tickets for the sophomore contest are now $3 for adults and $2 for students.

Anyone entering Memorial Stadium must wear a face covering at all times, unless eating at a seat. Seating will be limited to every other row and all fans are required to practice social distancing.

The Homecoming Court festivities will be streamed live on the Waterloo Community Schools Facebook Page.
