Waterloo West High School's Homecoming football game will be played Friday night after all.

About two hours after the Wahawks' scheduled varsity contest against Linn-Mar was canceled due to a quarantine order involving the team from Marion, Waterloo School officials issued a second news release that reversed the earlier announcement. Instead of playing the Lions, West will now host Anamosa -- a Class 2A program -- at Memorial Stadium in Waterloo.

The varsity game between the Blue Raiders (1-1) and Wahawks (1-1) will begin around 8 PM. Kick-off will be approximately 30 minutes after the sophomore game against Linn-Mar ends. The sophomore game is set to start at 5:30 PM.

In the second press release, Waterloo School officials said West's Homecoming festivities will take place at halftime of the sophomore game. All previously announced COVID-19 restrictions concerning admittance vouchers, remain in place (see original story).

Fans entering Memorial Stadium must wear a mask at all times during the games, unless eating or drinking at their seat. Social distancing will also be required in the stands and throughout the facility.
