The second eight-player semifinal of the Iowa High School football playoffs featured 140 fewer points than the record-setting first game. For top-ranked Don Bosco, there wasn't enough scoring.

The Dons were upset by 10th-ranked Fremont-Mills of Tabor, 32-30, Thursday afternoon. Fremont-Mills (8-1) ended Don Bosco's 22-game winning streak. The Dons (9-1) scored twice late in the fourth quarter, but couldn't find a way to stop the Knights' offense when they had to.

The game, scheduled to start at 12:30 PM, kicked-off nearly 90 minutes late due to the length of the opening game. St. Mary's of Remsen defeated Montezuma in the early semifinal, 108-94, in a four-hour battle that ended with the most combined points scored in Iowa high school history.

Nebraska recruit Seth Malcom rushed for 293 yards and four touchdowns on 40 carries in Fremont-Mills' victory. His final TD run came with a one-minute, 56-seconds left in the fourth quarter. Malcom broke away from a pack of Don Bosco players, who were trying to keep the Knights from getting a first down after the Dons' onside kick failed.

Malcom's final touchdown put Fremont-Mills ahead 30-22. Then, he scored the two-point conversion to give the Knights a double-possession lead.

Don Bosco scored :28 later when Cael Frost threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Naughton, and completed the conversion throw to Dillon Welter. Then, Fremont-Mills ran out the clock after recovering another onside kick.

Frost completed 8-of-14 passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns. But, he threw two costly interceptions in his final game and was sacked three times. The senior quarterback led Don Bosco with 62 yards rushing on 24 carries.

The Dons were limited to 197 total yards (87 rushing). They allowed 417 in the loss.

Don Bosco was up 14-12 at halftime, but never regained the lead after a 74-yard touchdown run by Malcom with 5:18 remaining in the third quarter put Fremont-Mills ahead 18-14.

Frost, a third-year starter for the Dons, completed his career with 4,005 rushing yards. Don Bosco's senior class was part of two state championship teams (2017 and 2019).
