After winning nine games in a row, the Waterloo Bucks have dropped back-to-back contests for the second time this season.

The Bucks (16-6) had their first-place position in the Northwoods League's North Division standings trimmed to a half-game following a 5-3 loss to last-place La Crosse at Riverfront Stadium Wednesday night (June 21, 2017). The Loggers (8-15) took advantage of several Waterloo miscues to beat the Bucks.

David Villar set the tone early for La Crosse, blasting a two-run home run over the left-center field wall in the top of the first inning.

The Bucks loaded the bases in the third, then tied the game at 2-2 when Jay Schuyler drew a walk and Zach Malis was hit by a pitch. Waterloo took a 3-2 lead one inning later, scoring on the go-ahead run on a La Crosse fielding error.

The Loggers evened the score in the six inning. Kennie Taylor used his speed to beat out a double play ball at first, allowing Jeremy Ydens race home from third. La Crosse regained the lead in the seventh when Cameron Cannon's two-on double plated Jake Hirabayashi. The visitors added an insurance run in the ninth.

Waterloo had a chance to tie the game on Joe Genord's base hit to right field in the seventh, but Tyler Stover was thrown out at home plate to end the inning.

UP NEXT: The Bucks finish their season-long, five-game home stand at Riverfront Stadium on Thursday (June 22) when they host La Crosse again at 6:35 p.m.
