2020 Iowa High School Volleyball Rankings

A season-high 16 area teams are ranked in the latest Iowa high school volleyball rankings.

Waverly-Shell Rock (37-8) rose form No. 6 to No. 2 in the final poll of 2020, released Monday afternoon. Joining the Go-Hawks in Class 4A survey is West Delaware (26-11) at No. 8.

In all, there are five teams from the Cedar Valley and northeast ranked in the top five of their respective classes. Three of those teams compete in the powerful North Iowa Cedar League (NICL), which has 10 of its 15 members ranked in the poll.

Janesville is considered the favorite to win the Class A state championship. The Wildcats (25-4) are the No. 1 team in Class 1A heading into postseason play. Ranked behind them are Wapsie Valley (17-7) at No. 2, Gladbrook-Reinbeck (29-2) at No. 4 and North Butler (21-5) at No. 13.

Wapsie Valley and Gladbrook-Reinbeck compete in the NICL, along with all seven are teams that are ranked in Class 2A. East Division champion Dike-New Hartford (26-4) is rated third, followed by Denver (30-5) at No. 6, Sumner-Fredericksburg (24-7) at No. 7, Hudson (26-7) at No. 10, Waterloo Columbus Catholic (18-15) at No. 12, Jesup (15-12) at No. 13 and Aplington-Parkersburg (16-11) at No. 15.

The other NICL team featured in the rankings is La Porte City Union (29-9), which is No. 7 in Class 3A. Independence (23-7) is ranked six spots below the Knights at No. 13.

Cedar Falls is the other ranked team from region. The Tigers (25-5) are rated fifth in Class 5A.
