2017 Iowa High School Football Week 9 Rankings
Eleven high school football teams from the Cedar Valley and northeast Iowa are featured in the final Associated Press rankings of the 2017 season.
According to the poll, defending eight-player state champion Don Bosco is favored to win the title again. The Dons (9-0) enter the playoffs as the top-rated team. They are ranked six spots ahead of No. 7 Tripoli (8-1), the squad Don Bosco beat 78-20 in the regular-season finale Friday night (Oct. 20).
Four area squads are considered contenders for the Class-A championship. Hudson (9-0) is ranked third, one spot in front of No. 4 Wapsie Valley (9-0). Gladbrook-Reinbeck (8-1) sits at No. 7 in the poll, while East Buchanan (8-1) is 10th. Gladbrook-Reinbeck, the two-time defending state titlist, begins its quest for a third-straight championship at Wapsie Valley this week.
Other squads ranked in the survey include Denver (No. 6, Class-1A), Waukon (No. 5, 2A), Aplington-Parkersburg (No. 8, 2A), Waverly-Shell Rock (No. 7, 3A) and Cedar Falls (No. 5, 4A). Denver (9-0) is the only team unbeaten among the group. The rest are 8-1.
