Chicken Processors Considering Iowa and Nebraska Locations
Two separate chicken processors are mulling locations in Nebraska and Iowa. While not naming the company, the Omaha World-Herald reports a global food company is interested in building a poultry processing plant on the eastern side of Nebraska. That facility, expected to be located in Freemont, Nebraska, could open in 2018 and employ 1,100 workers. Meanwhile, Simply Essentials LLC, a Kansas City, Kansas-based processor, is considering restarting a processing plant in Charles City, Iowa. Meatingplace reports the Iowa Economic Development Authority awarded a tax incentives package to the company to assist in purchasing and upgrading the existing but idle chicken production facility. The $29.9 million capital investment is expected to create 254 jobs.
