A Charles City man is charged with first-degree murder in the death of a central Iowa man.

Authorities arrested Randy Linderman, 52, on Thursday (July 13, 2017). He was taken into custody in Charles City. Authorities then transported Linderman to the Jasper County jail in Newton, where he's currently being held.

Linderman is accused of killing Jose Berber on March 6. According to Jasper County sheriff's officials, Berber was found deceased after authorities received a call about an unresponsive person inside his rural Newton home.

The Iowa State Medical Examiner later determined Berber died of blunt force trauma and ruled his death a homicide, sheriff's officials said.

Linderman's arrest resulted from a joint investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Jasper County Sheriff's Department, Charles City police, and Floyd County Sheriff's Department.
