C.F. Man Makes Plea in Thanksgiving Day Arson

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A 30-year-old Cedar Falls man who pleaded guilty to arson has been given two to five years of probation and must spend a year at the Waterloo Residential Correctional Facility.

Online court records say Nicholas Kollasch was scheduled to begin trial Tuesday but made a deal with prosecutors. He pleaded guilty to arson and criminal mischief after prosecutors lowered the arson count. His two 10-year prison terms were suspended.

Prosecutors say Kollasch set fire to a van and to a garage on Thanksgiving Day in Cedar Falls. The fire spread to two cars parked nearby and destroyed the garage.
