Brantley Gilbert has been an open book with country music fans. For well over a decade, Gilbert has been clean from alcohol use and told his story to anyone and everyone, surely inspiring others to do so.

Brantley Gilbert Gets Candid About Drug Use

Gilbert was the latest guest on Taste of Country Nights With Evan Paul on Demand, where we asked him if he was more open to speaking about marijuana use, now that Jelly Roll has done the same.

The "Over When We're Sober" singer said, "I've released songs about it, I'm really open about it in conversation because, when I knocked somethings out of my life, 13 years ago, you know I waited a year just to be off everything, then kind of picked that back up."

Gilbert didn't want his message over the years to get confused. Gilbert continued, "I never wanted people to get the wrong idea. I didn't want to say I was stone-cold sober. I didn't want to put the wrong message out. I didn't want people to think I was being dishonest."

Gilbert continued speaking out about the benefits of marijuana use, specifically in his life.

"I'm not ashamed of it, I'll continue to talk about it. I gotta tell you, it's not for everybody. You know, a lot of addicts are better off not touching anything, I'm probably one of those, ya know, but this has been the only thing I've ever had in my life that I can do conservatively and when I felt like it."

The "Bottoms Up" singer explained in further detail about his marijuana use.

"If I don't smoke for 5 days, I'm not scratching the walls or feeling out of my skin. It's something I enjoy, man, it kind of took the place of passing the moonshine jug around, ya know, we just pass something else around."

Gilbert, joining the likes of Jelly Roll and Willie Nelson in speaking out about being "California sober," went on about the topic.

"I feel like it's a trending thing, I can't tell you how many people I've talked to recently that are coming off drinking and going to that."

Gilbert just released a powerful duet with country music newcomer Ashley Cooke, called "Over When We're Sober."
