WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — The family of a longtime Waterloo orthodontist who died in 2011 has given a $4 million gift to the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa.

It's the largest gift the organization has ever received. The contribution will establish the Ross D. Christensen Family Fund.

Christensen was a longtime president of the Waterloo school board and a founder of Leadership Investment for Tomorrow. He and his wife Patricia volunteered with a number of nonprofit organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club, that worked to improve the community. Patricia Christensen died in April 2014.

The couple's son and daughter will serve as advisers of the fund.
