A brand new restaurant with an old-fashioned twist recently opened here in Eastern Iowa!

Thanks to a new article from the Cedar Rapids Gazette, we have discovered that the city of Solon is now home to a new restaurant with a really interesting concept. It's called The Brass Fountain, and it's located at 122 East Main Street. The official website says that the business is a "modern take on the most quintessential American culinary institution: the soda fountain."

According to Wikipedia, soda fountains were popular places to hang out back in the 1940s and 50s. If you're not familiar with the concept, Wikipedia describes it as "a small eating establishment or lunch counter, often inside a drugstore or other business, where a soda jerk served carbonated beverages, ice cream, and sometimes light meals. The soda jerk's fountain generally dispensed only unflavored carbonated water, to which various syrups were added by hand."

The Brass Fountain acquired a refurbished soda fountain machine from the 1950s, and they wrote on Facebook that it uses "house made syrups from real fruit and pure cane sugar." In addition to sods the whole family can enjoy, the restaurant also offers “prescription only” sodas for adults, like the Bubbly Margarita, the Daiquirini, and the BF Lemonade.

Other beverage options at The Brass Fountain include floats, shakes, malts, and egg creams, and there are special alcoholic versions of the floats and shakes for adults. As far as food goes, the menu offers classic favorites like onion rings, chicken wings, ice cream sundaes, chili, griddle burgers, fried catfish, smoked pork chops, and a variety of sandwiches. You can check out the full menu HERE.

After looking through some of the photos on Facebook, I am already in love with this place! I need to check it out ASAP! The Brass Fountain is open Wednesday & Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday & Saturday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can read more about the new restaurant HERE.
