Wtloo Man Convicted in Teen Slaying, Dies While in Prison

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A former Waterloo man convicted in the 2006 murder-for-hire of a teenage girl has died in Illinois custody.

Illinois Corrections Department spokesman Tom Shaer told the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier (http://bit.ly/12mCbHY ) that David Damm died early Monday morning at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, Illinois. Shaer says the 67-year-old Damm had a history of illness and on Thursday was placed on medical furlough from Pontiac Correctional Center.

Damm was convicted of murder, kidnapping and conspiracy to commit murder in the slaying of 13-year-old Donnisha Hill. Authorities say he hired a friend, Bruce Burt to kill the girl to cover up allegations that Damm molested the Waterloo eighth-grader. Burt killed her in Illinois' Joe Daviess County. The 65-year-old Burt is serving a life sentence.
