Authorities have arrested a woman on charges connected to a counterfeit money case in Waterloo.

Kiera Quarles, 18, is accused of passing fake currency in the city. She was arrested in Wisconsin this week on a Black Hawk County warrant charging her with ongoing criminal conduct and forgery.

Waterloo police said tips from the public helped them identify Quarles as a suspect. Her photo was among several posted online Nov. 13 by Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers, which, at the time, was seeking tips from the community to help authorities in their investigation.

Quarles was transported from Wisconsin to the Black Hawk County Jail following her arrest.

Waterloo police responded to several reports of fake $100 bills being used at local businesses during the early part of November. Information released by investigators at that time indicated as many as three woman may have been involved in the crime.

Authorities said the case remains an active investigation.
