Westgate Driver Loses His Car to a Fire

A Westgate man has lost his vehicle to a fire early this morning (Friday, June 7), while he was driving in rural Fayette County.

At about 12:30am the Fayette County Sheriff received a 911 call, reporting a vehicle that was on fire on "W" Avenue, about 4 miles west of Westgate.

A preliminary investigation indicated that 32 year old Andrew Thorp of Westgate was traveling north on the county road, when his vehicle somehow malfunctioned.

The car, a 2004 Mazda RX8, ignited into flames; the vehicle was deemed a total loss.

No one was injured.

The Fayette County Sheriff was aided at the scene by the Westgate Fire Department and Westgate Ambulance service. The incident remains under investigation.
